Massage Therapy

The Swedish massage is one of the most common types of massages you can get. This type of massage involves actions like effleurage, kneading, vibration, tapping and rolling. Massage oil or lotion is used to protect the skin from friction. Deep or relaxing, oil or dry, there are many options to the type of techniques used for the most beneficial therapeutic outcome.

Stewart’s Manual Osteopathic Treatments focus on two main processes in the body; Function and Structure.

Functional Treatment:
These clients will present with more functional symptoms like: digestive issues, neurological ( central nervous system / vagus nerve), sleep disturbances, poor posture, head aches, post concussion, issues with the ability to focus, multitask or deal with stress, the feeling of low energy, systemic pain or achiness to name a few.
This treatment is done with the client fully clothed and lying on their back on the table. Some of the techniques that Stewart applies during this treatment are: Cranio-Sacral or Cranio-Osteaopthy, Indirect Myofascial Release, Held Compressions, Visceral Manipulation, Therapeutic Visualization etc.

Structural Treatment:
These clients will present with more structural symptoms from injury, trauma, surgery or overuse pain and dysfunction.
This treatment is also done over the clothes and the client will start on their back and be asked to turn to their sides throughout the treatment. Some of the manual techniques that Stewart applies during this treatment are: Indirect Myofascial Release, Joint Compressions, Matrix Repatterning, Visceral Release etc.


Athletic Therapy

Joan has been a healthcare practitioner for 18+ years working in an array of specialized rehabilitation care, ranging from inpatient postoperative orthopedic, neurologic and general medicine services, as well as providing therapeutic care for amateur to elite athletes. Her passion for helping others, for sport, and her love of learning led Joan to a career in the Sports Medicine realm, working as an Athletic Therapist. She then pursued Registered Massage Therapy and Fascial Stretch Therapy to enhance her skillset. She also instructs in one of Ontario's Massage Therapy programs!

Joan is an advocate of client-centered care and collaborative practice for restoring function and mitigating disability. Her treatment style includes a strong skillset of manual techniques and an intuitive approach to care. She also includes adjunctive practices such as Cupping, Blading, Fascial Stretch, and Kinesio taping when/if appropriate. She is intentional in her treatments and ensures clients are met with individualized treatment plans that bolster their education and active engagement in treatment. Joan believes this efficiently addresses a client's health concern(s) and enhances the quality of their trematnet, and in turn their overall quality of life. Joan appreciates that mobility is medicine and she looks forward to helping mobilize your health and wellness!

Stewart has owned and operated Newmarket Massage Therapy Clinic with his wife, Nicole Caple, since 2000. Stewart is in his 28th year of manual practice (class of 1995) and has done tens of thousands of treatments thus far in his career. Sylvia is a compassionate, intuitive and skilled practitioner and her humour shines through her treatments. Sylvia keenly understands the frustration that patients can experience while trying to find both compassionate and effective care for pain in our healthcare system. Embracing the notion of lifelong learning, she holds designations of Research Analyst, Registered Practical Nurse and Registered Massage Therapist along with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Jessica graduated with honours from the Massage Therapy program at Georgian College in 2009 and has been practising for 14 years. While on a 6 month volunteering excursion to Tanzania, Africa she had the epiphany that she wanted to change her life entirely and become a massage therapist. She acted on her intuition, quit her job, and enrolled in the massage therapy program. Jessica’s passion for her work and her caring attitude with her clients shows that she made the right choice! Alicia graduated from Centennial College in 2002 and has been an RMT for 21 years. Before coming to Newmarket Massage she worked at a physiotherapy clinic for 15 years and has experience working with clients who have been in car accidents, post surgery, and post injury as well as general relaxation treatments. Alicia loves introducing her clients to Myofascial Release. She has taken courses in myofascial release for the full body and also courses focused on neck, voice, and swallowing disorders; she has been excited to see it helping her clients. Alicia is passionate about educating and supporting pregnant women. In 2017, she trained to become a doula - though she isn’t currently working as a doula, she uses her knowledge to help pregnant women experience a pain-free pregnancy through massage therapy and Spinning Babies techniques, while also teaching and educating them on pregnancy and birth and the importance of advocating for themselves.

Nicole owns and operates Newmarket Massage Therapy Clinic with her husband, Stewart Carter, since 2000. She is a graduate of the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy (class of 1999) and has been practising as a registered massage therapist for 24 years. Nicole knew she wanted to be an RMT when she was 16. She received a massage from a registered therapist and felt such profound pain relief and relaxation she felt it was a revelation to feel better without pain relieving drugs.
